Easy delicious warm cinnamon apple compote recipe Simple steps flavorful results Perfect topping or dessert Enjoy this fall favorite

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji), peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup water or apple cider
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional, to prevent browning)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Instructions

  • Peel, core, and dice the apples into uniform pieces. Toss them with lemon juice (if using) to prevent browning.
  • In a large skillet or saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the diced apples and brown sugar to the skillet. Stir to coat the apples evenly with the butter and sugar.
  • Pour in the water or apple cider. Add the cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves (if using), and a pinch of salt. Stir well to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  • Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let the apples simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until they are tender but still slightly firm. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  • If you prefer a thicker compote, remove the lid and let the mixture simmer for a few more minutes, allowing some of the liquid to evaporate.
  • Taste the compote and adjust the sweetness or spices to your liking. Add more brown sugar for a sweeter compote, or more cinnamon for a spicier flavor.
  • Serve the warm cinnamon apple compote warm, as is, or with your favorite toppings like whipped cream, ice cream, or chopped nuts.
