Total Time:59 minutes
Yield:4 servings 1x
Ingredients
Scale
1 block (14-16 oz) extra-firm tofu, pressed
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon grated lemon zest
1 tablespoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a little heat)
Instructions
Press the Tofu: Wrap the tofu in paper towels and place a heavy object on top for at least 30 minutes to remove excess water. This is a crucial step for achieving a firm and crispy tofu.
Prepare the Marinade: In a medium bowl, whisk together olive oil, soy sauce, lemon juice, lemon zest, turmeric powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using).
Cut the Tofu: Slice the pressed tofu into ½-inch thick slabs.
Marinate the Tofu: Place the tofu slices in a shallow dish or resealable bag and pour the marinade over them. Make sure each slice is well coated. Marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to several hours in the refrigerator for a more intense flavor.
Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill to medium heat. Lightly oil the grill grates to prevent sticking.
Grill the Tofu: Place the marinated tofu slices on the preheated grill. Cook for about 5-7 minutes per side, or until golden brown and slightly charred.
Serve and Enjoy: Remove the grilled tofu from the grill and serve immediately. Garnish with extra lemon zest or fresh herbs, if desired.
