1/4 cup of powdered sugar (for frosting)
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (for frosting)
Fresh strawberries and chocolate shavings for garnish
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
In a separate bowl, mix the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until combined. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
Carefully add the boiling water to the cake batter and stir until smooth.
Evenly divide the batter between the two prepared cake pans. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced strawberries with 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar and let them macerate for 15-20 minutes.
In a separate bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
Layer one cake on a serving plate and spread a layer of whipped cream frosting on top.
Distribute the macerated strawberries over the frosting layer, adding chocolate chips if desired.
Gently place the second cake layer on top and frosting the top and sides with remaining whipped cream.
Garnish the top with additional sliced strawberries and chocolate shavings.
