Ingredients

  • Fresh Ginger: 1-2 inches, peeled and thinly sliced
  • Lemons: 1-2, depending on your preference for tartness
  • Water: 4 cups, filtered
  • Honey or Maple Syrup (Optional): To taste
  • Optional additions: A pinch of cayenne pepper, a sprig of mint, or a slice of orange
  • Instructions

  • Peel and thinly slice the fresh ginger.
  • In a saucepan, bring 4 cups of filtered water to a boil.
  • Add the sliced ginger to the boiling water. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the juice of 1-2 lemons. Be careful not to add lemon juice while the water is boiling, as it can turn bitter.
  • If desired, strain the tea to remove the ginger pieces.
  • Add honey or maple syrup to taste, if desired. Start with a small amount and adjust to your liking.
  • Pour the tea into mugs and enjoy hot. You can also let it cool and serve it over ice for a refreshing iced tea.
