Total Time:1 hour
Yield:24 cookies 1x
Ingredients
Scale
2 cups of all-purpose flour
1 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup of granulated sugar
1/2 cup of unsalted butter, softened
1 large egg
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 cup of powdered sugar
2 tablespoons of milk
1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. Gradually add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until incorporated. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until combined.
Once your dough is well-mixed, wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Use heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut out cookies. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake your cookies for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the centers remain soft. Allow them to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Once the cookies are cool, mix the powdered sugar and milk to create a smooth icing. Decorate the cookies using a piping bag or ziplock bag with the corner snipped off. Add sprinkles and edible glitter for creativity.
Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth. Dip fresh strawberries into the melted chocolate and allow the excess to drip off before placing them on parchment paper to set.
