  • Total Time: 48 hours 20 minutes
  • Yield: 8-10 cups 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds of bones (beef, chicken, or fish)
  • 2 carrots, roughly chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, roughly chopped
  • 1 large onion, roughly chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, peeled and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 bunch of fresh parsley, chopped
  • 10 cups filtered water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Instructions

  • Roast the Bones (Optional): Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the bones on a baking sheet and roast for 20-30 minutes, until they are browned. This step adds depth of flavor to your broth.
  • Combine Ingredients: In a large stockpot or slow cooker, combine the roasted bones (or raw bones), carrots, celery, onion, garlic, ginger, turmeric, and apple cider vinegar.
  • Add Water: Pour in the filtered water, ensuring that the bones and vegetables are fully submerged.
  • Simmer: Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to the lowest setting. Cover and simmer for at least 8 hours, or preferably 12-24 hours for chicken bones and 24-48 hours for beef bones. The longer it simmers, the more nutrients will be extracted.
  • Strain: Once the broth has simmered, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly. Strain the broth through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove the solids. Discard the bones and vegetables.
  • Season and Serve: Season the broth with salt and pepper to taste. Stir in the fresh parsley before serving.
  • Store: Store the broth in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
